Keanu Reeves thinks his character in Henry’s Crime is a “dork”.

The 46-year-old Canadian actor was a producer as well as starring in the comedy, which also featured appearances from Judy Greer, James Caan and Vera Farmiga.

The film recounts the story of an aimless man who is sent to prison for a crime he did not commit, with Keanu playing the title character. The star enjoyed the role because he was such a lovable loser without any ambition.

“Absolutely. James Caan even says to him, ‘You’re the nice dork who lives without a dream,’” laughed Keanu when asked by Total Film if he considered Henry to be a dork.

Portraying a geeky character is rather different from Keanu’s roles in past hits such as 1994 action-thriller Speed and The Matrix trilogy, where he was more used to displaying suave and heroic men. The hunk admits that despite showing immense combat prowess on the big screen, off screen he is rather less brave.

“I’m a really good movie fighter but it doesn’t translate to the real world. If they gave out black belts for movie fighting, I’m second dan. But in real life? I’m nothing,” he laughed.

Keanu Reeves and a female friend make a few last minute purchases at their local Christmas Tree shop on Christmas Eve (Friday, December 24) in Los Angeles.

The 46-year-old actor purchased a large Christmas Tree and had it strapped atop his shiny black Porsche before driving away.

Keanu next stars in the indie drama, Generation Um…. Pic follows a day in the life of Keanu’s character and his two cohorts as they live life on the fringe, immersed in sex, drugs, and indecision.

Keanu Reeves has ridiculed critics who say he never smiles. The 46-year-old is best known for his role in the Matrix trilogy, where he played lauded saviour Neo. The actor - parodied for his deadpan persona in films - has turned on his detractors who insist he’s always melancholy, instead questioning how he should present himself for best first impressions.
“How do I live with any happiness? I’m not living if I don’t have a Golden Retriever! I see articles all over about what is the new happiness. What’s the happiness length? How many units of happiness does it take? Well... you have to have at least six portions of four units of happiness in each cycle,” he laughed to Elle.


Keanu added he feels fortunate to have experienced his rush of fame when celebrity worship wasn’t as prominent as it is now. He often wonders how today’s new stars cope with the almost continuous intrusion into their private lives.


“I didn’t experience it like they do. I don’t know if it’s an obsession with celebrity, or because there’s more output opportunities for it. In 1992, there weren’t so many. Twitter, all that stuff, is definitely a new world. Their privacy is a lot less,” he said.
